The Price of Perfection
When I first started in business, I had a dream to help people connect with their passions. But my purpose got lost under the pressure to be perfect. And instead of feeling fulfilled, I felt more empty than ever.
When I first started Hello Lovely Life way back in 2015, I had a dream to help people connect with their passions and create a life that’s in alignment with their purpose. After all, I had found MY passions and sharing this was MY purpose!
But by being immersed in the coaching and self-help industry, my purpose got lost under the pressure to be perfect, to become an influencer, and to live the laptop lifestyle.
And instead of feeling fulfilled, I felt more empty than ever. I had lost my self trying to be the woman I was told to be.
So I took a break.
Hurt and feeling betrayed, I disavowed the coaching industry and self-help world, I went back to a 9-5 job, and gave up on my dream of making a difference in people’s lives
But, as you can image, completely giving up on my dreams didn’t work out either. And learning this meant that I had to do some REAL, honest healing and transformation of my beliefs.
My Biggest Insights:
1. EASY SUCCESS CAN LEAD TO FAILURE.
I WAS THE GOLDEN CHILD GROWING UP. I ALWAYS EXCELLED AT SCHOOL, AS A MUSICIAN, AND BASICALLY ANYTHING I TRIED. EVERYTHING CAME EASY TO ME, AND I WAS REGULARLY PRAISED FOR DOING SO WELL.
But my success as a child and adolescence led to my demise as an adult. Because I never really had to try that hard, I never developed the resilience and grit needed to overcome major challenges.
Once I realized the importance of sticking with a challenge, I was finally able to push through the messy middle, and achieve the goals I had set for myself.
2. AUTHENTICITY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN PERFECTION
If you’re anything like me, you let perfectionism get in the way of moving towards your dreams. After all, why try if you know you’re going to fail?
When I first started my business, I felt major pressure to be the perfect image of a coach and have my business COMPLETELY together. I felt so overwhelmed even trying to get started.
And this made my work stagnant for years. Instead of sharing the wisdom in my heart, I was more concerned with LOOKING like I had my business together. So my truth never got spoken or shared.
I realize now that it’s more important to be authentic and show up as my true self, even if it falls short of perfection. (WHO is perfect, anyway?!)
And more importantly, I can help people MORE by showing up as my true self, because it doesn’t put the pressure on anyone else to be perfect either. I can stand in my power, messy as it may be, and show others that they can be authentic too.
3. I FOUND TRUE SUCCESS WHEN I HAD THE COURAGE TO GET REAL
I used to say, “I’ve put in all this effort, and I have nothing to show for it.” I thought that if I didn’t own a private jet, vacation on yachts, and have a huge rock on my finger 💍, I was a complete failure. A big part of me believed that the material things were the only measure of success.
After waking up to my inner Truth and inherent worthiness, I realized that I have some pretty amazing things that I’ve gained from my experiences since 2015.
I’ve learned what it means to take RADICAL self responsibility
I’ve rediscovered my true heart’s calling, and this time listened
I’ve gained clarity about boundaries - with myself and others
I’ve found my courage and deepened my connection with myself
The list could go on and on, but let’s just say I feel like a complete and whole person again. And this is the real success story - LOVING MYSELF. And I know you can deeply and fully love yourself too. ❤️
