Mystical Messages of Easter Series: Betrayal of Judas

Hello Lovely,

Welcome back to Day 4 of the Mystical Messages of Easter Series!

This Easter is an especially powerful one for me this year because I’m in my Christ Year, which is when you’re 33 years old - the same age Jesus supposedly was during the Easter story.

So I’m feeling deeply connected, not so much with the actual historical events of the Easter story (who knows if they’re true or not?!), but with the powerful mystical messages hidden within the tale.

And I hope that you can start to feel the same power that lies within the expanse of the Universe, and also within the mysteries of your soul.

Because the truth is, you are an expression of the Divine, and you have within your heart the potential to make a huge impact on the world. It’s time to step into your Divine Light and create a life in alignment with your higher self.

Yesterday I shared the metaphysical interpretation of the Palm Sunday story, which is all about recognizing that you have the Divine Light within you, and the power to experience miracles everyday.

Today I’ll be sharing the mystical meaning of the Betrayal of Judas aspect of Holy Week.

Betrayal of Judas:

Judas betrayed Jesus right there in the Garden of Gethsemane and turned him in to be arrested by the Romans. And Judas, for millennia, has been the scapegoat for betraying the Son of God. Yikes.

But this is not a story of the classic Good vs. Evil, or even Human vs. God. It’s easy to slip into that kind of black and white thinking, but there is a hidden message that will help you go deep within yourself and be able to practice radical self-acceptance.

Because this is actually a story about your light and your shadow. And as humans, we all have parts of ourselves that we accept and love, and parts of ourselves that we reject and shame. It’s simply what it means to be human.

Judas represents the shadow self, the part of your humanity that you reject; the deepest darkest shadows within you.

… Maybe it’s a shameful experience you had an adolescent, and that part went into an emotional box and you said, “That’s too painful. I’m so ashamed. I’m NEVER opening that box again.”

… Maybe you’ve had so much pain that it turns into anger, and you lash out at those close to you. And then you’re ashamed, and you feel the pain all the deeper…

… Maybe you were burdened with the weight of perfectionism, only to pay the price of never living up to your standards.

… Maybe you were told you were born a sinner, and you’re inherently broken and can only be saved by some power outside of yourself. Unfortunately you’ll never be good enough for that, because you were born that way.

These are only some of the ways you could be rejecting yourself, keeping yourself broken and fragmented, and out of alignment with your Divine Truth.

And Judas betraying Jesus is an interesting play on the relationship between your shadow and your light. Because Jesus knew Judas was going to betray him, and he still didn’t condemn him or reject him.

See, Jesus represents pure love, and the higher consciousness light aspect of your humanity. We all have it within us. We all have the power to connect with our Divine mind, and embody the love of Spirit.

And when you bring this unconditional acceptance to your shadow self, you begin to shine a light on the areas that you thought you’d hide away forever. You begin to absolve the shame and illuminate these parts of you that you once rejected.

And you can finally say…

>> I am free to be me. Here I am world. I belong.

>> I am confident in who I am. I love myself completely and unconditionally.

>> I am a blessing to this world. My life matters, and the Universe is unfolding for my good.

>> I love life, and I am free.

Jesus didn’t respond to the fear/shame/shadow with anger or hatred. That’s what got your human-ness in the shadow in the first place.

In the words of MLK,

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

Reflection Questions:
>> How can you embrace the parts of you that you’ve rejected and hidden away in the shadows?

>> How can you accept yourself more fully, and bring your shadows into the light using love and forgiveness?
