Mystical Messages of Easter Series: Empty Tomb

Welcome back to Day 6 of the Mystical Messages of Easter Series!

This Easter is an especially powerful one for me this year because I’m in my Christ Year, which is when you’re 33 years old - the same age Jesus supposedly was during the Easter story.

So I’m feeling deeply connected, not so much with the actual historical events of the Easter story (who knows if they’re true or not?!), but with the powerful mystical messages hidden within the tale. 

And I hope that you can start to feel the same power that lies within the expanse of the Universe, and also within the mysteries of your soul.

Because the truth is, you are an expression of the Divine, and you have within your heart the potential to make a huge impact on the world. It’s time to step into your Divine Light and create a life in alignment with your higher self.

Yesterday I shared the metaphysical interpretation of the Palm Sunday story, which is all about recognizing that you have the Divine Light within you, and the power to experience miracles everyday.

Today I’ll be sharing the mystical meaning of the Empty Tomb aspect of Holy Week.

Empty Tomb:

After Jesus was crucified and died, he was laid in a tomb and a large stone was rolled over the covering.When his followers returned to anoint Jesus’ body with oils, the stone was rolled away and Jesus was gone.

In this story, the tomb itself is ripe with symbolism, both when it’s covered by the stone and when it’s revealed to be empty. The tomb here represents the container of our limitations, and how we are kept trapped by our own beliefs.

If you are in the tomb of your limited thinking, the door of possibility is covered by your restricting beliefs, and you’re alone and in the dark. You literally can’t see the light and you’re trapped as a victim, waiting for someone to come rescue you.

The tomb is your experience of victimhood.

Maybe you’ve had this belief that you need saving for many years… but the truth is that you are capable of rolling away the weight of your limiting beliefs and walking into your inner freedom.

When Jesus was miraculously outside of the empty tomb, it was representing the power of personal responsibility and how we are capable of releasing ourselves. According to the myth, Jesus didn’t have help rolling away the stone - he rolled it away himself.

Just as Jesus wasn’t in need of saving, you aren’t in need of saving because you are whole just as you are. You have all of the tools within you to step into your power, and create a life of Divine freedom, if you just remember your light.

Staying in the tomb represents the experience of victimhood, powerlessness, and waiting for someone to save us from ourselves.

The truth is that we don’t need saving. Many people are taught that you are born inherently broken, that humanity has original sin.

But I believe that our humanity is what connects us with the Divine. Our nature isn’t sinful, humanity was born with what Richard Rohr calls original blessing. Because we are made in the “image and likeness of God,” we all have within our being an innate Divinity.

You don’t need saving from yourself and to live your life in a tomb of victimhood. All you need is to recognize and remember your Divine nature, and live a life of empowerment.

Rolling away the stone of powerlessness, and walking directly out into your personal freedom is all about recognizing that you are capable of meeting all of your needs and creating a life in alignment with your Divine purpose.

Inner freedom is removing the seemingly unmovable stone of victimhood. You transcend the bonds of powerlessness and claim your true nature as one of Divine Empowerment.
